I usually only snort coffee for Stephanie Plum - purpleturtle - Southern NH

I could not put this book down! I was transported into another life and felt all the ups and downs of that life. The "people" in this tale were so real, so dimentional...I could see them, feel them and hear them. I was laughing out loud...which is why I was blowing coffee out of my nose at 4am! 8*) Reading Stay At Home was part real life "this could happen to you" and part fairy tale. Real life in the form of the slime on the first page to dealing with the unsatisfied sister-in-law and her antics. These were recognizable experiences. Then, the Janie and Billy story was pure fairy-tale-pleasure to read. I was annoyed when my eyes refused to stay open so I could keep reading. So, I slept with the book and started reading as soon as my eyes opened. Stay At Home is one of those special books that grasps you and cuddles you until the last page. And even then, I wanted MORE!! I know what I'm giving for Christmas this year!

A great read! - Kathleen - Marblehead, MA

Great dialogue, true to life dilemmas. This is a quick and easy read that will rattle you to the core if you've ever dared to think the grass is greener. Single women, married, married with children, all will gain perspective and be careful to what we wish for after a good night alone with this book. A terrific first novel!

As real as it gets - Sombida - MA

A slow start, seemingly your average chick-lit, it turned me upside down as the seemingly typical characters unfolded. Typical hardly, more like subtly revealed through the daily relatable tasks of day to day trials and tribulations. Not what you would expect, no knight in shining armor, no fantasies to take away the hum drum realities of the battles of staying home with kids and running a day care at the same time. The showing up of the handsome but scruffy 'rockstar' complete with baggage defies the knight scenario. The 'too busy for his family' husband always away on trips is as real as it gets. The flippant and jealous girlfriend/sister in law always there to bring down the tireless protagonist could be living next door. The ending, fulfilling in it's outcome, again defies the stereotypical outcome of girl gets the 'pretty boy'. It reveals a deeper message; that we have picked our lives, made our beds, made our decisions to make them work and choose to abide by them, no matter what the bittersweet outcome. Kudos to Sarah Phelan on a successful first novel!

Surprises await - Thorndike

Surprises await you in this book! Looking for a light-hearted romance I picked up Sarah Phelan's book Stay-At-Home. I figured that the pink cover pretty much said it all. But, shortly after starting this book I found that it was not your average romance novel. I was unexpectedly brought down a fun and often emotional trail in the life of the main character Janie Hadley. I witnessed the extraordinary events that occurred in a stay-at-home mother's life and found myself caught up in the story and rooting for her the whole way.
